Charity begins at home, but it must go further to qualify as true giving. The BCS is proud to support social programmes that benefit Brazilians of all ages from less privileged backgrounds, as well as the arts.

The “English Cemetery” at Gamboa is one of the oldest British institutions in Rio and is located on land originally donated in the early 1800s. It is a state- and municipal-listed monument and has to be kept in first class order. Recently, with all the building works going on for the major sporting events in 2014 and 2016, the revitalization of the port area and the creation of the Porto Maravilha, the Prefeitura has been particularly demanding, requiring various engineering projects to guarantee the stability of the cemetery, located on the slope of the Morro da Providência. All this has put enormous pressure on the BBF funds and donations are always gratefully accepted.
