On November 12, Remembrance Sunday, a traditional Service of Remembrance was held at Christ Church, at the request of the Royal British Legion – Rio Branch.
Poppy Collection boxes at the BCS office, the British School, the British Consulate and Christ Church raised a total of R$1072.40 this year, which will be sent to RBL-UK for its continuing work there.
As in previous years, we were lucky to have the participation Alison Correia do Lago on the trumpet for the First and Last Post during the Remembrance Ceremony and the Banda dos Fuzileiros Navais playing the National Anthems of Brazil, USA and Great Britain.
The wreath of poppies was laid by Commander Andrew Munns and Steven Bainbridge and the RBL Standard was carried by Steven Carnt, Secretary of the RBL-Rio. Rupert Brasier spoke the Exhortation. US Consul General Jimmy Story read the First Lesson and UK Consul General Simon Wood read the Second Lesson, with other members of the RBL, the US Consulate and Christ Church carrying the flags of UK, USA and Brazil, respectively.
Everyone was invited to coffee and cake in the Jubilee Hall after the service. The RBL is grateful to Rev. Mark Simpson and Rev. Alexander Cacouris for their assistance with the service which, in spite of the earlier time of 9 a.m., still drew a respectable number of participants.
